Tekdata to Manufacture Spacecraft Wiring for NASA's James Webb Space Telescope

26.9.2013

Following a comprehensive review of processes and facilities in Stoke-on-Trent, Cryoconnect, a division of Tekdata Interconnections Ltd, is approved to proceed with the manufacture of flight harnesses for NASAs James Webb Space Telescope under contract

Roy Blake, Cryoconnect Technical Manager, added, “Cryoconnect originally won the James Webb Space Telescope contract based on our 13-year heritage in the design and manufacture of ESA & NASA approved space-flight qualified electrical wiring harnesses for spacecraft structures, scientific Instruments requiring low temperature detector systems, infra-red array systems, and a vast array of housekeeping harnesses on cryogenic systems of all scales.”

A team of engineering specialists from Northrop Grumman and NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center visited Cryoconnect to review its purpose-built facility and the processes and procedures developed specifically for the Webb Telescope program. Upon this review, the customer validated requirements for test and manufacturing readiness, giving Cryoconnect the approval to commence manufacture of the flight harnesses. In addition to the flight harnesses, Cryoconnect is also contracted to manufacture a series of ground-based test harnesses to support Northrop Grumman during the construction and testing phases of the program.

“We are extremely pleased to have passed this milestone as progressing to the Flight Harness Manufacturing phase follows five years progression from original concept through to critical design reviews.” said Ernie Edwards, Tekdata’s Managing Director. “It is a reflection of all the effort put in by the Tekdata team to understand and deliver our customers’ requirements.”
