As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting the development of up and coming talent, the Tekdata-Cryoconnect Prize for the best degree in astrophysics at Keele University has been created in partnership with Professor Rob Jeffries, Head of the Keele Astrophysics Group.

Winner of the inaugural prize went to Luke Daniels who achieved a first class honours degree in physics and astrophysics. As well as a cash prize (always a welcome contribution towards student overdrafts these days!), Luke was presented with a specially commissioned Jasperware plaque from Wedgwood.

Having worked with many prestigious names including NASA and the European Space Agency, contributing to such projects as the Herschel Space Telescope, Tekdata are ideally positioned to support students in this area.

Cryoconnect Project Manager, Terry McManus stated “We believe that links with the local manufacturing base of the past and our future scientific communities are very important. Josiah Wedgwood was a leading innovator of his time and that spirit lives on today and is central to our success at Cryoconnect. We are looking forward to supporting many more of Keele’s astrophysics graduates in the years to come.”

Tekdata’s Autosport Department are also collaborating with Staffordshire University which will see students being placed within the company from January 2012 as part of their autosport degree. This will enable them to develop their work experience as well as putting into practice the knowledge and skills they have learned in the classroom.
